Windsor man charged with going almost double the speed limit

LaSalle police have charged a 26-year-old man who apparently had the need for speed over the weekend.

Police say an officer conducting traffic enforcement stopped a vehicle Sunday evening on Front Road.

The driver was clocked going 94 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 km/h zone.

The Windsor man was charged with stunt driving.

Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Safety Act, any speed of at least 40 km/h over the speed limit is considered stunt driving.

LaSalle police have also used this incident to remind people of factors that could affect stopping distance. Speed is at the top of the list.

Other factors include road conditions, the vehicle's weight, and the shape of the brakes and tires. Driver-related factors include distraction, impaired driving, fatigue, reaction time, and perception time.
