Thirteen projects will share $59,000 from the City of Windsor's Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund.
The grants support local art, culture, and heritage projects that spur creative and economic growth in the community.
The City of Windsor said it received 35 funding applications, 25 from individual artists and ten from organizations. Seven grants were awarded to individuals and six to different groups. Eleven received their full funding request.
Some of this year's successful applicants include the Windsor Jazz Concert Series, Windsor Feminist Theatre, Arts Collective Theatre, and Michael Poirier, who is making a documentary.
Each project could receive up to $5,000.
Competition for the grants was stiff, and the jury had to make some difficult decisions. The winning submissions are a mix of music, performing arts, storytelling, dance, film and comedy.
The city offers grants in two rounds each year. Each round is worth $59,000.
"The results of the program speak for themselves," said Mayor Drew Dilkens. "The ACHF is one of many components of Council's overall significant investment in arts, culture and heritage in Windsor."
Since the program's launch in 2014, the city has received 989 applications. Of those, 481 received $1,127,000.
