Event in Windsor addresses period poverty

Windsor's Harbour House Waterfront Eatery on Riverside Drive East is the place to be on Tuesday if you have menstrual products to spar.

Period Promise, which used to be known as Tampon Tuesday, is holding an event at the restaurant between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to collect donations for those struggling to make ends meet.

"Many local families are struggling to make ends meet," said a release. "This includes providing or accessing food, shelter, and even menstrual products. By supporting Period Promise, you are helping to remove this barrier for local people so that no one has to choose between food on their table and basic hygiene products."

The event is a partnership between the United Way, the Canadian Labour Congress, and the Windsor and District Labour Council.

Anyone can stop by Harbour House Waterfront Eatery to deliver their donations, mingle with others, enjoy complimentary appetizers, and listen to live music.

There's also a drive-thru, while donations are accepted online.

Donations will be distributed to those in need through the Windsor-Essex Food Bank Association's network of 15 food banks, shelters, and organizations, including the United Way's On Track to Success Program and Summer Programs.
