A Kingsville man has been fined $1,300 on multiple charges in connection with a 2023 hunting incident.
According to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Justice of the Peace Mary-Louise Cortese found the man guilty in a Windsor court on December 12, 2024.
He was convicted of hunting deer without a licence, hunting at night, possessing an un-encased crossbow at night, trespassing in possession of a crossbow, and trespassing for the purpose of deer hunting.
The man must also forfeit his crossbow to the Crown.
"The court heard that on November 10, 2023, a conservation officer received information from the public about an individual potentially illegally deer hunting within the Town of Kingsville," read the notice from the Ministry. "The officer responded to the location and initiated an investigation where he located [the hunter] committing multiple deer hunting violations after legal hunting time had ended for the day."
The provincial government has warned those who hunt that the regulations are there for the protection and safety of hunters, animals, and the general public.
The Ministry is always willing to speak to people with information about alleged violations. To find out how, visit the official Province of Ontario website.
