Kingsville opens applications for short-term rentals

The Town of Kingsville has placed its new short-term rental licencing program into effect.

Applications for a short-term rental licence are now available at the Municipality.

"A 'short-term rental' is defined as any structure, or part of one, used for temporary lodging for rental periods of 28 consecutive days or less in exchange for payment," read a release from the Town. "This licensing program applies to bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, and inns, but excludes short-term accommodations provided without payment."

A background check is required, along with proof of insurance. Annual fire inspections are also a requirement and included in a modified fee structure.

Operators may have two people per bedroom, plus two, to a maximum of ten occupants. Operators that pay a commercial property tax rate are exempt.

On-site parking must be provided based on the rentals' total capacity, with one space for one to four occupants, two spaces for five to eight occupants, and three spaces for nine or ten people.

Rentals may not be within 300 metres of each other.

The online application, along with complete guidelines for rentals, can be found on the Town of Kingsville's official website.
