Replacement Peace Fountain approved

City of Windsor councillors voted unanimously to approve spending $10.5 million to replace the Charles Brooks Peace Fountain in Reaume Park.

The replacement will be similar to the previous floating fountain however will include some modern technology like LED lighting and variable speed pumps.

While the price tag is above the original estimate, funds are already earmarked for the project in the 2024 capital budget.

Planning for the installation will start this year with tendering anticipated in early 2025. Construction is expected to begin early in 2026.

"I know that people are looking forward to the reintroduction of this element down in Reaume and Coventry Park, they've missed the fountain. I'm looking forward to it coming back with a roar and with the community building on it," said Ward 6 Councillor Jo-Anne Gignac.

Council also moved to establish September 21 as an International Peace Day in the city.
