Pickleball Club makes proposal for WFCU Centre gym

The Windsor Pickleball Club wants to make the gym at the WFCU Centre a semi-permanent pickleball court for the winter months.

Currently, the club rents the gym about 22 times a week for its members.

President of the club Patrick Brown says they'd like to purchase a removable floor for the gym to create a better player experience.

"We're looking at exclusively pickleball at the WFCU gym from basically October until the end of April and then during the period outside of that the gym would be multi-use, including pickleball," said Brown.

If the gym were converted for pickleball in the winter months it would displace other programming currently offered at the WFCU Centre.

In addition to the flooring, the club is requesting that new padding be installed on the gym walls. This request comes after a tragic accident involving one of their members who struck his head off the wall while playing and died from his injuries.

The City of Windsor staff is already looking into installing padding for the gym.

Windsor City Councillors requested the proposal and cost estimates be referred to budget deliberations.
