OPP find weapons and drugs, charge two men

Two Tecumseh men face a total of 56 charges after the Ontario Provincial Police searched a home on Tuesday.

The OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau was investigating the trafficking of cocaine and opioids in Essex County, and the search warrant in Tecumseh was carried out by officers from the Tecumseh detachment and the Essex County OPP Community Street Crime Unit.

Police found four handguns, including one that was loaded, a conducted energy weapon or taser, $20,000 worth of cocaine, 5,700 oxycodone tablets, and $120,000 in cash.

A 47-year-old man faces 30 counts, including four of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, four counts of careless storage of a firearm, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of an opioid for the purpose of trafficking.

The other suspect, a 69-year-old man, faces 26 charges, including four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and four counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

The suspects have a November 27 court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.
