Suspect arrested after technology locates stolen vehicle

Windsor police cite new licence plate technology in locating a stolen vehicle and an alleged thief.

The owner of a 2023 SUV called police on Monday to report it stolen.

At around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, an officer driving a vehicle equipped with an automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) reader was on patrol when they spotted the stolen vehicle in a parking lot on Wyandotte Street East near McDougall Street.

The vehicle was surrounded, and the four people inside were arrested.

A 27-year-old woman is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The others were released.

The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner. The charge has not been proven in court.
