Downtown Windsor to host a pair of soccer viewing parties

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) is continuing its successful run of viewing parties for major sporting events.

The first one is Tuesday night at a group of popular downtown establishments.

Soccer fans are invited to cheer on Team Canada's men's team as it takes on powerhouse Argentina in the semifinals of the Copa America tournament, played at East Rutherford, New Jersey. That match begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The match will be shown at a selection of downtown businesses, according to the DWBIA.

The second soccer event is on Sunday, with Ouellette Avenue between Pitt Street and University Avenue closed to traffic from 12 noon to 8 p.m. for a block party.

"This is a full-blown celebration of the beautiful game, complete with entertainment, food and drinks from some of our top local restaurants, and a lot of great company to keep the energy high," said DWBIA Chair Chris MacLeod.

Windsor Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino promises a fun time for all ages.

"No better place than downtown to be surrounded by fellow soccer enthusiasts, all cheering, celebrating, and reveling in the thrill of every goal, save, and moment of the Euro Cup Final," said Agostino.

Match time for the Euro Cup Final is 3 p.m. Sunday, with the sides to be determined.
