ERCA monitoring water levels

The Essex Region Conservation Authority is monitoring water levels in the region with significant rainfall expected to continue until Friday.

The region has already experienced around 25 mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours and the forecast is predicting another 25-30 mm overnight into Friday afternoon.

Higher than normal water runoff is expected because of the already saturated ground. Smaller and localized watercourses are expected to rise nearing capacity.

Flooding from major watercourses is not expected.

"People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events. The combination of slippery banks and fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards," warns the authority.

ERCA issued a Watershed Conditions Flood Outlook on Thursday afternoon. The advisory is in effect until Friday at noon.
