Following numerous complaints about people riding all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes, and similar vehicles on local highways and private property, Windsor Police remind riders they could face charges.
They say the vehicles lack the safety features needed to operate on public roadways, and riders need the owner's permission before riding on private property.
Many of the complaints were about riders near Texas Road in Amherstburg.
Police remind residents they can file a complaint with its Road Watch program online or the non-emergency line at 519-258-6111. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477.
While ATVs are allowed on some roads in Lakeshore, Amherstburg and Windsor prohibit them.
The Essex County ATV Club proposed their use in 2018, but town councillors rejected the proposition a year later because of safety and liability concerns.
The appeal isn't the first time police have warned riders to stay off the roads. They made a similar warning in June 2022.
