The 2024 Federal Budget will include additional funds to improve and expand $10-a-day childcare nationwide.
The funds will be included in a new loan program for public and not-for-profit childcare providers to build new spaces and renovate their existing childcare centres.
The federal government will also offer student loan forgiveness for students who choose to work in rural or remote locations after graduation.
The budget will also include another $10 million to train more early childhood educators over two years.
"This is huge for our community, this is going to allow moms and dads to be able to take that job that's available here in our community or go back to school," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk. "We've seen the demand for child care. This is going to make sure we have both the facilities but also the staff the ECE to be able to meet that demand."
Over half the provinces have already implemented $10-a-day child care. All provinces will be required to regulate $ 10 a day on average by March 2026.
The federal budget will be tabled on April 16, 2024. Full details on the proposed programs will be released at that time.
