Tecumseh looking for feedback on Housing Accelerator Fund plan

Residents in the Town of Tecumseh could still have a say if four-plexes get built in their neighbourhoods.

Earlier this month, the town received $4.4 million in funding from the federal government's Housing Accelerator Fund. As part of the grant approval, the town agreed to allow four-plex developments "as of right" in all residentially zoned properties.

"The status quo has to change and we have to look at other opportunities to be able to build. But, again, it's a process that has to be followed there's no such thing as we're going to circumvent all of the bylaws and the official plans of the town, that's not going to happen," said Mayor Gary McNamara.

Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti introduced a notice of motion at the last Tecumseh Town Council to host a public meeting to get feedback on the commitments made as part of the Housing Accelerator Fund program.

"All of those technical questions in terms of where and what can happen, I think is what the purpose of these public meetings will be. Those issues and questions will be clarified and that way it gives the residents the peace of mind, understanding exactly what the town's position is," said Bachetti.

The motion will be considered at the next meeting of the council. If approved the public meeting would be scheduled for the spring.
