WESPY's announce nominees

Nominees for the for the 17th annual Windsor Essex Sports Persons of the Year awards were announced this week.

Each year, the WESPY's honour athletes, coaches, and sports organizations in the community.

Nominations for the Coach of the Year include Dale Mitchell of the Leamington Flyers Hockey Club, James Gravelle for the University of Windsor Lancers and Steve Vagnini with St. Clair College.

For Female Athlete of the Year the nominees include Mandy Brunet with the University of Windsor, Leah Tate from Holy Names Secondary School and Ella Steel Douglas with Sandwich Secondary School and Border City Athletics Club.

Male Athlete of the Year nominees include Jayden Trudell with the Border City Boxing Club, Thomas Kennedy from the University of Windsor Lancers basketball and Matthew Maggio from the Windsor Spitfires.

This year's award ceremony will be held at the Caboto Club on April 30, 2024.

The keynote speaker is golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
