Tecumseh secures funding through Housing Accelerator Fund

The Town of Tecumseh was awarded $4.4 million through the federal government's Housing Accelerator Fund.

The town submitted a nine-part action plan that includes allowing four-plexes as-of-right, implementing a new e-processing system and revising its minimum parking requirements for new developments.

"These are all things that the town has shown tremendous ambition and they're recognized now as being one of the most ambitious communities that are part of the Housing Accelerator Fund funding," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

The town will be awarded 25 per cent of the entire grant immediately. It will be required to build 137 housing units over the next three years to unlock the remaining funds.

"I think the bottom line is affordability, attainability for a lot of folks that want to move into this community and the ability for us to create some diversity in the type of housing," said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara.

It's estimated this plan could help to construct 5,850 homes over the next 10 years.
