A donation to the Kingsville and Leamington food banks will ensure it has fresh meat to offer its clientele.
Scotiabank in Leamington partnered with the Trimble Farms Cattle Company in South Woodslee and bought two cows.
The cows will yield more than 1,100 lbs of ground beef, which will be split between the two organizations.
The donation came after a tour of the food bank in Kingsville.
"We were absolutely shocked to see empty shelves and freezers completely empty. This included the beef freezer," said Branch Manager Brenda Martinello. "We committed to the food bank that we would work with our community contacts and get beef into the freezers."
On Friday, the branch made good on its promise.
It's not the first time Scotiabank has acted to support the food bank in Kingsville. Last fall, it held a non-perishable food drive, and collected donations at the Pelee Island Winery's Harvest Festival.
