Windsor Police bestows special coin on nurse and officer

For the first time, someone outside of the Windsor Police Service has received an Honour in Service Coin.

The recipient is Abbas Haidar, a nurse at Windsor Regional Hospital and a member of the Nurse Police Team.

Windsor Police Inspector Jen Crosby presented Haidar and Constable Johny Keo with the coins at the Windsor Police Services headquarters.

The two are recognized for their actions last June when they answered a call about a man in crisis who had jumped into the Detroit River.

The man was unresponsive and floated west downstream. His body was caught on a breakwall out of reach of officers.

Keo and Haidar, helped by other officers, pulled the man to shore. They performed chest compressions until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital.
