Arson suspected in $1M Amherstburg fire

Windsor police's Amherstburg detachment is looking into an early-morning fire that has been deemed suspicious.

Officers joined Amherstburg firefighters at the scene on Elliot Lake Road off McLellan Avenue at about 6 a.m. Friday. A newly built home was already engulfed in flames, and damage had spread to a neighbouring house.

The first home was destroyed, and the second sustained major damage, estimated at approximately $1-million.

The home was vacant at the time. No one was hurt, but police are suspecting arson.

Anyone who was in the immediate area of the fire has been asked to check any security camera footage from Friday morning and give police a call if they see anything unusual.

Those with information should call the Windsor police's arson unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
