Masse tables petition calling for Gaza ceasefire

The Member of Parliament for Windsor West has joined others who are calling for an end to the conflict in Gaza.

On Thursday morning, Brian Masse of the NDP tabled a petition asking for an immediate ceasefire in the region. A statement from Masse's office said the petition received thousands of signatures from Windsor-Essex residents.

"Today, I continue a long legacy of representing the citizens of our Windsor–Essex area who have always sought peace during conflict and raised their voice to protect human rights through the lens of social justice," said Masse.

The petition is the first paper one to be submitted. An online petition started by Quebec MP and NDP Deputy Leader Alexander Boulerice generated about 380,000 signatures.

According to the United Nations, as of Thursday, more than 28,000 people, most of them Palestinian, have lost their lives in the conflict.
