Essex residents invited to budget explainer

The Town of Essex is inviting residents to an open house meeting on the 2024 budget.

"We invite everyone to attend these informative events to ask questions about the 2024 approved municipal budget," said Mayor Sherry Bondy. "This is a great opportunity to learn more about the budgetary decisions that were made to meet the current and long-term needs of the community."

Town councillors approved the budget in principle in December with a 4.9 per cent increase in the municipal levy. The increase works out to another $8 more for the average homeowner.

The 69.8-million spending plan includes the reconstruction of Irwin Avenue, rehabilitation on Ridge Road, replacing Dock C at the Colchester Harbour, and new playground equipment at Co-Ann Park.

The town planned two meetings. The first is on February 12, at 4 p.m. in the Shaheen Room at the Essex Centre Sports Complex. The second meeting is in Harrow at the Harrow Arena Meeting Room on February 15 at 5 p.m.
