Three local hunters are facing fines after shooting a moose from a motorboat on Lac Seul.
The Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers conducted a remote moose enforcement flight on October 14, 2022.
They found a successful moose-hunting group and discovered that two of the hunters shot a cow moose from a boat. At the time, they were over 17 kilometres away from the tagholder. Party hunting rules dictate that the hunters must be within 5 kilometres of the tag holder.
As a result of the investigation, a Kingsville man plead guilty to unlawfully hunting big game and discharging a firearm from a motorboat. He was fined $9,000 and had his hunting licence suspended for a year.
An Essex resident also plead guilty to unlawfully hunting big game and discharging a firearm from a motorboat and was fined $8,500.
Finally, a Wheatley resident plead guilty to unlawfully invalidating tag with respect to an animal killed by another person and was fined $2,000.
