Charges after driver replaced license plate with a paper copy

The Ontario Provincial Police reminds drivers a piece of paper printed to look like a license plate is no substitute for the real thing.

An OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Talbot Street West in Leamington early last Monday morning after running a check on a vehicle's license plate.

The plate was no longer valid, but that wasn't all. When the officer inspected the plate up close, he discovered it wasn't a license plate but a piece of paper.

A Leamington man faces charges of using a plate not authorized for the vehicle, operating an unsafe vehicle, and driving under suspension.

Police had the vehicle towed from the scene.
