House of Sophrosyne one step closer to renovation goals

The House of Sophrosyne received a $10,000 donation from Concentra Bank thanks to a nomination from the Motor City Community Credit Union.

The funds will go toward renovations at the addiction treatment centre's new location on Adstoll Avenue.

"The vision is to increase our beds, because there are a lot of people still waiting to get in for help," said Karen Waddell, CEO of the House of Sophrosyne. "Decrease wait times, serve more individuals and just have a really great facility that people can come to when they need this help."

The House of Sophrosyne received the donation after Concentra ran a nation-wide sponsorship program called Empower Your Community.

The Motor City Community Credit Union submitted a nomination on behalf of the House of Sophrosyne describing the services and programs.

"All we had to do was to say the good work that they do. We don't have to embellish, we don't have to word smith it... it's the work that they do, all we had to do was put it on a form," said Robert Griffith, CEO of Motor City Community Credit Union.

The House of Sophrosyne is waiting on approvals from the provincial government to move forward with its bed expansion project.

Renovations required to expand community programming are expected to begin shortly.
