LaSalle starts construction on second fire hall

Officials in LaSalle have officially broken ground on a new fire hall they hope will open in early 2025.

The fire hall is a crucial part of the town's three-station model approved in March 2022 under the former council.

Gulf Developments won the bid to build the new station at the site of the former Centennial Arena on Front Road at the corner of Old Front Road.

Construction will cost $9-million.

A third fire hall is expected to go up on Laurier Parkway in the area of Disputed Road.

Fire Chief Ed Thiessen argued while there were no concerns about the ability of firefighters to respond to an emergency under the previous plan, the town is growing, and the three fire hall configuration would reflect population trends.

Eventually, the town hopes to staff each fire hall with four full-time firefighters.
