UPDATE: Arrest made after six-hour standoff

Windsor police asked people to avoid a neighbourhood east of downtown as a heavy presence of officers responded to a barricaded person on Wednesday.

According to police, members of the Repeat Offenders Police Enforcement (ROPE) Unit attempted to conduct an arrest warrant at a residence on Francois Road near Franklin Street Wednesday. When the suspect saw police, he retreated into the dwelling, and barricaded himself inside with a weapon, police said.

At around 2 p.m. police said that Metcalfe Road had been closed between Francois Road and Bernard Road due to an "active investigation".

Members of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU), crisis negotiators, and Windsor Police K-9 arrived on scene and contained the area.

At around 7:30 p.m., after a lengthy standoff, the suspect was arrested without incident.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

A 41-year-old Windsor man was charged on his warrant for threats, forcible confinement, assault, and theft under $5,000.
