North American International Auto Show opens in Detroit on Saturday

Gear heads will pack the second fall North American International Auto Show at Huntington Place over the next week.

The public show gets underway on Saturday and continues to September 24 with lots for families and auto buffs alike.

Promising nine days of "Electrifying Mobility Immersion," the show offers a new indoor track featuring different electric models on a serpentine track, the opportunity to go off-roading with a professional driver, a course where kids can drive their own Jeep 4xe Power Wheels, and a simulator offering show-goers a chance to experience what it would be like to ride in a flying car.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will host a 5k walk or run at the Outdoor Adventure Center on Atwater Street.

Organizers held their first fall showcase last year and expressed pleasure with the turnout, although they didn't release attendance figures.

Before the pandemic in 2019, the show attracted 774,179 attendees.
