WE-SPARK ignites 18 local research projects

WE-SPARK Health Institute is helping 18 local research projects with grants this year.

Research grants totalling $345,000 were distributed to research projects at Erie Shores HealthCare, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Windsor Regional Hospital, St. Clair College and the University of Windsor.

"We go from diabetes research to addictions, mental health, to cancer research, all sorts of different types of ideas that span the whole spectrum," WE-SPARK director Dr. Lisa Porter.

The 18 projects will involve over 116 local researchers and trainees.

"It's really big for our community, research brings so much. The ecosystem it creates, the training of healthcare professionals, the excitement that it brings to the healthcare community, the new ideas, solutions that we're going to be able to find. Really the benefits to this are to the community, to the patients and to the people who are going to benefit from the answers that get found out through these research grants."

Over the last four years the W.E. Spark Institute has awarded over $1.7 million in grants to local research projects.
