Government talks with Stellantis ongoing

The federal government continues negotiations with Stellantis surrounding the EV battery plant in Windsor.

The company has had an official offer from the government for over two weeks.

"The agreement is in a good place and we are quickly approaching that moment where we are going to have an agreement where a decision will be made. We are literally in the final last strokes of those discussions," said MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

Over a month ago, Stellantis announced it was reassessing its options for the NextStar Energy plant stating the federal government failed to live up to commitments.

Kusmierczyk has said from the beginning that the federal government is 100 per cent committed to seeing this deal through.

"All indications that I've received from the deputy prime minister and the minister of industry as well is that discussions are going very well. I hope to have some good news to share with the community very shortly," said Kusmierczyk.

Construction on at least a portion of the project has been halted since that time.
