Public board to restrict attendance at meetings

For the time being, the public will only be able to attend meetings at a local school board virtually.

The Greater Essex County District School Board announced via social media that effective Wednesday, public board meetings will be streamed live on YouTube "until further notice". Only board members and board staff will be allowed to attend meetings in person.

The YouTube link to the meetings will be provided on the board's official website before each meeting. Speakers and delegations will be able to address the board by telephone.

An explanation for the change in meeting protocol was not immediately given, but the board reported that the goal was to conduct meetings in a "safe and secure" environment.

"This is a decision of the Board of Trustees to allow for the orderly and expeditious completion of regular business meetings in a safe and secure setting for staff and members of the board," read the post on Twitter.

WindsorNewsToday.ca has reached out to the public board for additional information.
