Dip in housing sales not as steep in May

Housing sales continued to slide in Windsor-Essex last month, but not by as much.

The Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors said realtors sold 546 homes in May, compared to 613 one year ago. It's a slide of 10.93 per cent.

It's the 15th consecutive monthly sales that have dropped year over year.

The drop in April was 24.13 per cent.

So far in 2023, housing sales are down 31.1 per cent.

Market Activity also dove in May, down 31.1 per cent as fewer homeowners put their properties on the market compared to a year ago. So far this year, market activity is down 15.81 per cent.

At the time of the report, the association had 1,305 properties on the market.

The average price to buy a home in the region slipped 6.4 per cent, from $643,818 last May to $602,591. Prices have fallen 17.18 per cent so far this year.

Most homes sold in Windsor-Essex went for between $420,000 and $549,999. Realtors sold 114 properties in that price range.
