If you live in Tecumseh, Amherstburg, or Kingsville and thought you might light up the backyard fire pit this evening, think again.
The Town of Tecumseh is reminding residents its open-air burn bylaw prohibits open burning when Environment Canada forecasts poor air quality.
"It is imperative that Tecumseh residents and visitors follow directives within the Open Air Burning Bylaw regarding the Air Quality Index," said Fire Chief Wade Bondy. "Fire safety, especially during weather advisories, is a collective community responsibility."
The Municipality of Amherstburg and the Town of Kingsville have now issued a burn bans in response to dry conditions in the community. The ban includes campfires, consumer fireworks and fire chimneys. The ban will be in effect until further notice.
A special air quality statement is in effect for a second day in a row, and Air Quality Ontario's index forecasts a high risk for poor air quality, or 7 for Windsor on Thursday.
The Town of LaSalle's open-air burn bylaw also prohibits burning when the air quality index is high. Other municipalities across the region leave it up to the fire chief to issue a burn ban. All require a permit for open-air burning.
