Essex Memorial Recognition Program expands

The Town of Essex is expanding its Memorial Recognition Program to include picnic tables.

For a $3,000 donation, those who have lost a loved one can commemorate them by having their name engraved on a memorial plaque on a picnic table in a green space.

The program previously only offered memorials for trees and benches.

The required donation for a memorial tree is $500 or $1,500 for a bench.

The donation covers the cost of buying the plaque, tree, bench, or picnic table, installing it, and maintaining it.

The town calls the memorials "important assets in our community as they provide our green spaces with shade and offer a place to enjoy nature."

Those wishing to create a public memorial of their loved one or special occasion can apply online.
