OPP lay manslaughter charges after overdose death

A 54-year-old Kingsville man is facing manslaughter charges after a person died of a drug overdose last week.

Ontario Provincial Police in Kingsville were called to a home on Monday, March 20. At the home, a 35-year-old person was found unresponsive and later died at the hospital. An investigation revealed the victim died due to an opioid overdose.

A 54-year-old is now facing charges of manslaughter and trafficking opioids.

The OPP reports that between 2018 and 2022, the Criminal Investigation Branch has investigated 30 occurrences where charges have been laid for manslaughter or criminal negligence causing death in relation to fatal overdoses.
