Tecumseh residents will notice a different-looking library.
Tecumseh Town Council approved at its meeting Tuesday night the final plans to renovate the Cada Essex County Library branch on St. Gregory's Road.
Deputy Mayor and Essex County Library Board Chair Joe Bachetti shared the drawings on his Facebook page.
"Archon Architects Incorporated was retained by the Town as the architect and prime consultant for the Cada Library Renovation Project to produce a concept design, which includes an interior renovation plan that improves efficiencies and creates greater functionality of the overall space," posted Bachetti. "The final design has been vetted by the Essex County Chief Librarian and staff, stakeholders, and the public and has been well-received."
As a whole, the library will get a new interior paint job, new floors and carpeting, new ceiling tiles, new signage for themed areas, increased hydro capacity to allow for the charging of cell phones, computers, and other devices, replacement of light fixtures with new LED energy efficient fixtures and a daylight harvesting system, new windows on the west wall to allow more natural light, and enhanced staff support areas.
Accessibility upgrades will include barrier-free washrooms, a barrier-free information desk, automatic sliding doors at the main entrance, and the removal of elevated floors in the program room. There will also be a new universal or gender-neutral washroom.
The Town will cover 70 per cent of the renovation cost, with the rest covered by the county library board.
Construction on the project could begin as soon as May.
