Windsor launches rental licensing program

The City of Windsor is calling on landlords in Wards 1 and 2 to apply for a licence for their rental properties.

As part of a pilot project, the city is launching a new rental licensing program aimed at improving safety in the housing rental stock.

As of February 13, 2023 owners (in Wards 1 and 2) with properties containing four or fewer units must secure a rental license for each rented unit.

A license can be secured by filling out an application, confirming ownership and insurance, providing a contact for the unit and showing that the unit meets all legislated requirements including Building Code, Fire Code, and Electrical Safety Standards.

Licence applications are due by May 31, 2023. By-law enforcement staff will take action on non-compliant properties starting on June 1, 2023.
