Trillium grant helps prepare women for the workforce

The Women's Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. has a new computer lab thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The grant was through the Resilient Communities Fund, a fund used to help community organizations rebuild after COVID-19 disruptions.

"It was needed to help rebuild, re-imagine how we are serving the community, especially after the long-term effects we had with COVID and how we all had to pivot," said Rose Anguiano Hurst, executive director of WEST.

WEST offers computer training courses and other skill training courses to prepare women in the community for the workforce.

Anguiano Hurst said the equipment they had was so outdated it no longer met their needs.

"We're trying to prepare people for the workforce so we needed to have equipment that was used out in the community," said Anguiano Hurst.

The $150,000 grant will also be used to help hire a communications coordinator for the organization.
