The City of Windsor says staff have worked around the clock to find alternate accommodations for residents of 1616 Ouellette Avenue, but there are still 30 who are finalizing their plans.
As a result, the shelter at the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre will remain open until Friday.
The City and the Red Cross opened the centre to those residents on November 22, after city officials found out the residents had been without hot water, electricity, and heat for months.
"We've been operating the temporary location for two weeks, and these extra couple of days are going to allow more tenants to finalize arrangements," said Executive Director of Housing and Children's Services Kirk Whittal. "We can assure everyone that no one will be without safe shelter options."
Those who still do not have accommodations when the shelter closes will be offered a space within the community's emergency shelter system.
City officials remain in contact with the property owners and the new management team at 1616 Ouellette. They said local contractors are still working on repairs, but there is no firm timeline for when the residents can return.
