Canadian flag conspicuous by its absence

You might notice something missing at the foot of Ouellette Avenue in Windsor.

There is no flag flying.

Crews working for the City of Windsor removed the Great Canadian Flag for the season, and usually, they replace it with a smaller one over the winter.

However, this year the plan hit a snag.

Crews need to fix an internal mechanism on the flagpole, and hope to hoist the smaller flag before the end of December.

A statement from the city said it hopes to have it up by the end of December.

Each year, crews lower the larger flag, which weighs 100 lbs and is over 18 meters wide and nine metres high, to protect it from the strong winter winds.
