County of Essex re-implements mask policy

The County of Essex is implementing a new mask policy for all its facilities.

Starting Tuesday morning, medical-grade surgical masks will be required inside all facilities. This includes the Civic Centre, Essex County library branches, and Essex-Windsor EMS stations. The masking requirement applies to all staff and visitors.

Both Ontario's chief medical officer of health and Canada's chief public health officer have recommended wearing masks indoors.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore made the recommendation Monday during a news conference. This comes after many pediatric units across the province have been dealing with an unprecedented surge of children with respiratory illnesses.

Officials with the City of Windsor say they are monitoring the situation but are not implementing any changes at this time.

At this time, the Town of Tecumseh is encouraging staff and residents to wear a mask while indoors but is not making them mandatory.
