The first sign of the West Nile Virus has been detected in the region.
Routine monitoring for the virus has identified one positive mosquito pool in the community.
So far this year, no human cases of the West Nile Virus have been identified locally.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit recommends that residents continue to protect themselves against mosquitos by removing standing water around their homes. To protect from mosquito bites use insect repellents that contain DEET, wear long-sleeved shirts, pants and a hat when outdoors, and limit the time you spend outdoors at dawn and dusk.
The health unit will continue to monitor for West Nile Virus activity throughout the summer.
