COVID-19 outbreak declared at WRH Met campus

Windsor Regional Hospital has identified a COVID-19 outbreak in one of its units.

The hospital said Thursday afternoon that eight patients have tested positive for the virus in the 7-North unit at the Metropolitan Campus. The majority of those patients are not showing any symptoms.

All patients in the 7-North unit are being tested for COVID-19 and monitored for symptoms.

To reduce the risk of spread, the hospital said it is limiting the number of visitors to 7-North to two fully vaccinated people per patient until the outbreak is lifted. All visitors are required to wear masks.

Patients who have been discharged from the hospital should also self-monitor and attempt to self-isolate for ten days from the date of leaving the hospital.

Precautions on controlling COVID-19 in the hospital remain in effect, as all patients are tested for the virus upon admission, whether they have symptoms or not.

According to the hospital, there were 25 patients being treated for the virus as of Wednesday afternoon, with 18 of them having COVID-19 as the main complaint. One of the patients is being treated in intensive care.
