Windsor police are asking the public for help after a driver allegedly struck a child, then left the scene.
It happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of McNorton Street and Maitland Avenue. Police said a child riding a bicycle was hit by a vehicle. The driver briefly spoke to the child and witnesses at the scene, then left without contacting the police.
Constable Talya Natyshak said that the child was brought to hospital by family members. The child's injuries were not life-threatening but they did require medical treatment.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or spoke with the child or the driver, to give them a call. The driver should also call the police and report the crash, as is required by law. Anyone who lives or has a business nearby with security camera footage should check the video and call the police if they see something unusual.
The vehicle is described as a dark blue sedan, possibly a Lexus.
Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, drivers must notify law enforcement when an accident involves injuries to a person or where damage to the vehicles or other property appears to likely exceed $2,000.
