Tecumseh will launch its on-demand transit system at the end of March.
Starting March 28, transit riders will need to download the Blaise Transit app and schedule a pick-up along the route. Scheduled pick-ups will be prioritized along the route using computer algorithms to create efficiencies.
Trip requests can be made from one week in advance until 45 minutes before a desired departure.
Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara indicated the on-demand service is intended to improve the service, increase ridership. and improve the overall efficiency of the transit system.
"There's a lot of opportunities but obviously the first and foremost we have to see how the system operates and how it works," said McNamara.
The town will operate the on-demand system for the rest of 2022 as a pilot program.
The bus will be free for us for one month after the on-demand service launches. At that time, fares will be reintroduced for the first time since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
