Pair charged after drug investigation

A weapons call to Windsor police has resulted in two people being arrested on drug and ammunition charges.

Patrol officers, along with members of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU), were called at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Randolph Avenue near Wyandotte Street West, responding to a call about a person with a weapon.

The house was soon contained, the occupants left, and the pair were arrested, according to Constable Talya Natyshak. Unspecified quantities of illicit drugs were seized, along with an assortment of ammunition.

A 23-year-old man and a 24-year old woman, both from Windsor, are each charged with possession of a prohibited weapon. Also, the male suspect was charged with five counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, and one count each of possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, and breach of probation.

The female was also charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking crack cocaine, and careless storage of ammunition.

These charges have not been proven in court.

Natyshak said investigators have applied for a warrant to search the house further, and the investigation is ongoing. A firearm has not yet been recovered.
