Niagara police charge second person in murder of Windsor woman

Less than a week after the first arrest, police in Niagara Falls announced a second person has been taken into custody relating to the death of a young Windsor woman.

On Monday, officials with the Niagara Regional Police Service confirmed a 29-year-old Scarborough woman has been charged in connection to the January 2021 murder of 20-year-old Juliana Pannunzio of Windsor and 18-year-old Christine Crooks of Toronto.

As a result, Heidi Bahler, 29 of Scarborough is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and obstruction of justice.

The accused is being held pending a court appearance in St. Catharines on Tuesday.

At around 4 a.m. January 19, police responded to reports of gunshots fired at a home in Fort Erie. When officers arrived, they found the bodies of Pannunzio and Crooks. Both women were part of a group of people who had booked a short-term rental for a party. However, the others at the gathering fled before officers arrived.

Last Thursday, Niagara police announced the arrest of 22-year-old Christopher Lucas, also of Scarborough. Lucas appeared in court last week after he was charged by police with two counts of first degree murder.

The arrests come nearly two months after investigators put a call out to the public seeking answers in the over six-month-old case.
