The holiday season appears to have an encouraging start on Windsor-Essex highways.
Ontario Provincial Police conducted an enforcement blitz on Friday in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME). A total of 347 tests were conducted on commercial vehicle drivers, and the OPP said the results could not have been better.
"The OPP is encouraged by the 100 per cent compliance by all operators, and not one operator had an alcohol test result above zero," said OPP Constable Steven Duguay.
Police will continue working with commercial drivers to reduce the risk of crashes on OPP-patrolled highways in Windsor-Essex, many of which result in injury or death.
With the holiday season kicking off, OPP officers will be out on patrol looking for impaired and aggressive drivers. The Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program began this weekend, with checkpoints expected across the region. The OPP, Windsor police, and LaSalle police will conduct RIDE checks.
