Four classes dismissed at Catholic board due to COVID-19

The local English-language Catholic school board has sent home several classes after positive COVID-19 cases were identified.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board announced Wednesday evening that the local health unit directed it to send home two classes at St. Pius X Catholic Elementary in Tecumseh, one class at St. John Vianney Catholic Elementary in Windsor, and one class at St. Joseph's Catholic Elementary with French Immersion in River Canard.

There were two confirmed COVID-19 cases at St. Pius X and one each at St. Joseph's and St. John Vianney.

"We learned of the confirmed cases [Wednesday] afternoon and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school Thursday," said board spokesman Stephen Fields in an email to WindsorNewsToday.ca. "The health unit will notify those students when they are able to return to school."

Parents at all three schools have been notified, and those with children identified as close contacts should monitor their children for symptoms. If your kids feel ill, contact your health care provider for further instructions.

These three schools are the only ones in the WECDSB with positive cases as of Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board, no new cases were reported Wednesday. The English public board currently has 25 active student cases along with two staff members.
