The occupants of two Windsor homes are safe after police officers found themselves in the right place at the right time.
At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers were in the area of Glengarry Avenue and Assumption Street when they smelled smoke and saw what appeared to be fire coming from nearby Aylmer Avenue. The officers notified Windsor Fire and Rescue.
A detached shed on Aylmer Avenue near Assumption Street was engulfed in flames, which appeared to be spreading toward a house, according to Constable Talya Natyshak. The officers knocked on the doors of the two houses closest to the flames to alert the residents, who all got out safely.
Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The investigation revealed that the fire was suspicious, and the scene was held for investigators from the Windsor police arson unit.
