Windsor City Council approves new name for hill

A popular toboggan hill, unofficially known as 'suicide hill' now has a new name.

Windsor City Council approved naming the hill Hope Hill after the Canadian Mental Health Association-Windsor Essex County Branch requested the name change.

The hill is located in the Little River Corridor Park and is used for tobogganing in the winter and a number of recreational activities in the summer months.

In May, the CMHA held an online campaign asking residents to offer alternative names for the hill. After putting finalists to a vote, the favourite was Hope Hill.  About 1,000 people participated in the survey.

The name of the hill will be changed on all City of Windsor materials, and websites and a new sign will be installed near the hill.

It will cost around $1,500 from the Parks Community Partnership Initiative fund to purchase and install the new signage.
